The Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) Workstation is a web-based, independent and integrated data management system designed to support the analytical capacity of local and national institutions, international organizations and NGOs in terms of food security policy formulation and emergency interventions. Workstations have been installed at key institutions in different countries to form the GIEWS Workstation Network, from here information can be shared directly.
The GIEWS Workstation Portal provides direct access to some of the key tools and outputs from the Workstation.
Workstation Tools
Makes available estimated rainfall data at 10 day intervals. Available from 1998 for the African countries and from 1974 for all other countries. The data coverage is at national level, administrative level 1 and administrative level 2. Read more.
Select a country to view the major crop stages (sowing, planting, growing or harvesting).
Consists of the average of key commodity group price indices (Meat, Dairy, Cereals, Rice, Oils, Sugar, Meals, Feed) weighted with international trade shares of each of the groups.

Decision support and response monitoring tool on food security related activities and initiatives of Governments and Development Partners. Allows for the analysis of projects, budget, Government priorities and areas of intervention; to help better identify gaps/redundancies in the development strategies and track activities. Read more.
